| My bowls focus on the tension between shaping
and the natural form of wood.
That is my starting point. Trunks, branches and blocks are turned into
objects and reveral their inner structures. The emerging
colours, forms and textures show wood in a variety and variation which
astounds the viewer and provides new insights. It is the flaws which
create unique pieces in the best tradition of design. My palpable examination with forms
started in the 1990ies. But iI have been using timber as a working
material much longer. To recognize shapes and to dig
them out became
the goal. The outer shape is determined by the inner structures. Or do
we have inconsistencies? Does
viewing wood pieces in their natural forms, shapes, shades, colours and
faults remind us of the times when man still lived in the woods? Does
”art” have a ”biological” value? I’m
trying to find answers to such questions. There
are no limits to the variety and form of wood. It just needs light and
water to grow. But let me stop
explaining! Take your own impressions and emotions as measure of
things. You’ll comprehend the message with my objects without further
explanations.
